Clinical depression treatment

Clinical depression usually affects people to lose focus in their life and make them overtly pessimistic about everything and every situation. They often fail to recognize the positives of their life and indulge in self criticism to extreme. Clinical depression in certain cases may lead the patient to commit suicide if not treated in time.  Below are few types of treatment available for curing depression.

    1. Physiotherapy and medications: Physiotherapy involved providing counseling to the affected person and trying to figure out the root causes of depressions and despair in the patient. Medications usually are anti depressants that control the chemical levels in the brain and try to decrease the symptoms of depression. Just medications and counseling may not always be helpful as to come out of depression, drastic life style changes are needed.
    2. Electro-Convulsive Therapy: Initially it was called as shock therapy in which electricity was used to give shock the brain. But latest innovations and improvisations in the technology has made this therapy more refined and delicate. The drawback of this therapy is patient may suffer from short term loss of memory.
    3. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: This is similar to shock therapy. But the electricity is used to generate magnetic field above the head. This magnetic field then works on the nerve cells of the brain.
    4. Natural Therapies: Natural therapies such as body massage, yoga, meditation etc are very helpful in countering depression. They also have many other health benefits along with being safe.
    5. Herbal Supplements: Herbal medications are usually extracts from specific herbs that are very effective in controlling depression. Like natural therapies, they also have various health benefits.
