Depression Anxiety Medication

People suffering from anxiety depression disorder usually show symptoms and signs of depression such as exaggerated worry and excessive tension which is unfounded. They also exhibit extreme anxiety which is much higher than the normal anxiety experienced by people. According to a research around 65% of people who suffer from anxiety depression also have other kind of psychiatric disorders. The common are major depression and panic disorder. The common medications for depression anxiety and related signs of depression are benzodiazepines and azapirones.

  1. BENZODIAZEPINES: Benzodiazepines are more effective in decreasing panic attacks and controlling phobic behavior. They are also helpful in preventing anticipatory phases in panic attacks. Some of the well known drugs such as clonazepam (Klonopin), lorazepam (Ativan) and alprazolam (Xanax) belong to this class. Benzodiazepines are known to be very effective and medically safe. They act faster than other class of drugs. It is also found that almost 50% of people who have been administered these classes of drugs show withdrawal symptoms. In some cases they may even build tolerance for the drug. Benzodiazepines are not recommended for elderly people as it causes memory problems.
  2. AZAPIRONES: Azapirones are newly developed class of drugs. There is just one drug currently available under this class. This called as buspirone which is manufactured and marketed under brand name of BuSpar. Many doctors have reported that busiprone has high success rate in treating anxiety depression disorder when compared with other anxiety disorders. There are some important factors that should be included while considering the options of using buspirone or benzodiazepines. The most important question is with respect to need of immediate effect. Busirone, in comparison to benzodiazepines, is slow in taking affect. Normally the time period can be few weeks. On the other hand Benzodiazepines show immediate effect and give instant results.
