Signs of depression are usually similar in both men and women, but are more apparent in different ways. However, depression is more common in women than in men and men tend to hide their feelings more than women. This does not mean that they do not suffer and that their symptoms are less agonizing. The trauma that any person goes through with depression is as agonizing in men as it is in women. Depression is something which one hears about a lot more in recent times, and whether it is more in the open now than it used to be or whether the modern lifestyle causes more stress is not clear.
Men who show signs of depression come across as more aggressive and dominant with frequent flaring of temper and anger. Though most men appear to be more irritable this is another trait which is a sign of depression. Road rage, rash driving and taking unnecessary risks are all latent signs of depression in males. Flying off the handle shows that the man is not in total control of himself and there is an underlying problem with him. Often because of bottling up their emotions a depressed man could loose control of his temper and react in an irrational way. A lot of men turn to alcohol because of depression and this only makes the problem worse instead of helping it. Such behavior mars relationships and leaves the depressed man isolated instead of getting people around him to help him.
